Cupcake Camp LA...huge success

wow what can i saw about my first ever cupcake camp. i had so much fun today meeting so many people, watching everyone walking around full of excitement as they gathered cupcakes and most of all hearing others compliment me on my cupcakes. this was my first time getting out there with my creations. there were a total of 56 bakers for this event and so far the biggest turnout for any cupcake camp.. the best part was it was a non profit event. all profits from the event went to charities. the charities were angel acres horse haven rescue, invisible people tv and american tortoise rescue. the venue was AMAZING. it was at the music box theater in hollywood.

they are already talking about having another cupcake camp la again hopefully in the summer. i look forward to it. i know what to expect next time around & will definately be there. thanks to babette at bakespace for putting this event together. ♥

saturdays cupcake camp la is getting closer. im getting excited...very excited. friday i will be baking & decorating my lil heart out. i will be making banana cupcakes with cream cheese frosting & double chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting. i have changed cupcake flavors a few times but these are what i am sticking with lol. its hard to narrow it down to only a few ya know ;)

saturdays event is getting some good publicity too. check out the article in the LA Times. its supposed to rain this weekend so i hope its not too bad & it doesnt discourage many from not coming out. a lil rain never hurt anyone so i hope to see many many cupcake lovers there. i will be posting pics come friday! YAY!!! oh and let me add Scharffen Berger is one of the sponsers of the event and to all the bakers that are baking with chocolate get free chocolate. mine came today in the mail. how awesome is that! ;) cant wait to try it.

carrot cupcakes n cream cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese ;)

so i thought it might be a good idea to see how good this oven works before i bake at lease 100 cupcakes for the cupcake camp la next saturday. haha yeah ive made some blueberry muffins here & there but havent made cupcakes since we moved here in september. so i went through some of my recipies and decided to make carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. when i got to the grated carrot part i realized we dont have a grater lol. so i had to use our magic bullet blender HA! it worked ok.

so i would say its good to know our oven runs hot. so i need to drop the degrees some. alright, maybe i will experiment some more before next weekend. until then we got some cupcakes to eat. yeehaw!

where did this come from....

cupookie....hmmm i like that. say it...c u p o o k i e. see its fun. this is a start of something i have been wanting to do for sometime now. ever since taking classes at the institute of culinary education in nyc its time to get the ball rolling on this passion of mine. ever since i was a kid i have always enjoyed anything that has to do with art. painting, coloring, sculpting, creating unique pieces of art with my hands. ive also always enjoyed the many many times in the kitchen baking cookies or cakes with my mom as a kid.

in my 20's i went on to work in the graphic design field. i worked with screen printers, commercial printers & advertising agencies. it was fun, i learned alot. after leaving the 8-5 job of graphic design i began the freelance work that many artist end up doing. it was then that i had the extra time to dab into other creative aspects of life that may be of interest to me. took some pastry/baking/decorating classes at the institute of culinary education in nyc when i lived there for 2.5 yrs. i loved every bit of it, i did well too. something about the intricate, precise & creative effort that goes into being a baker or pastry chef that i wanted more of. i thought..."i want to do this everyday."

so here i am now...giving this alot of thought i decided to come up with cupookie. it sounds fun and i love cupcakes & cookies so there. thats what im sticking too. i know this is just the start of my website/blog & the start of networking. everything starts from something. so here i am. this is a start of a dream awaiting to happen. im ready ♥
